Dharan Mayor Harka Raj Rai ‘Sampang’ Registers New Political Party

Exciting news in Nepali politics! Harka Raj Rai ‘Sampang’, the dynamic mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, has officially applied to the Election Commission to register a new political party. Mayor Sampang’s proposed party is named ‘Rastriya Sanskriti Party‘ (National Culture Party). According to sources within the Election Commission, the paperwork is currently undergoing the verification process. “He personally submitted the application for party registration, and we are now reviewing the documents,” the source stated. This move indicates a serious commitment from Mayor Sampang to formalize his political aspirations.

Sampang rose to prominence on a platform addressing water supply issues and secured a victory in the local elections. Since then, he’s been actively involved in water project construction in Dharan. His “Shramdan” (voluntary labor) campaign in Dharan has garnered significant attention and reflects his hands-on approach to governance. He’s also incredibly active on social media platforms, engaging with citizens and sharing updates on his initiatives.

Recently, following the “Gen Z” movement and the selection of leadership for the Nagrik Sarkar (Citizen Government), Sampang visited Kathmandu. He even expressed his intention to lead the government himself. After visiting the Nepali Army headquarters and ultimately not joining the government, he returned to Dharan. Now, with the application for his own political party, ‘Rastriya Sanskriti Party,’ it seems Mayor Sampang is ready to take on a larger role in shaping the future of Nepali politics and address key national issues.
